HOW GOOD WOULD IT BE IF THE ‘NEW NORMAL’ IN PLUMBING WAS TRADE ONLY?

Imagine a world where you needed to be a plumber to buy plumbing supplies. There would be significantly fewer jobs that did not comply with our current standards. This would mean safer gas installations, safer drinking water and safer sanitation. Our creeks and waterways would be cleaner as there would be less illegal trade waste and sewage entering these systems.

A plumbing licence would be an asset worth having. Plumbing businesses would be more profitable and would be able to pay their staff higher wages.

Thanks to the support of plumbers, Plumbers Choice is the fastest growing plumbing supplies in Australia. Our goal is to change the way plumbing supplies are sold in Australia to a Trade Only industry.

Maybe one day we will not need to imagine a Trade Only industry?

At Plumbers Choice our focus is on making the working lives of plumbers easier. Because of our Trade Only passion, we are always on the look out for new products that make plumbers’ work easier or more efficient.

We believe that we have developed a reputation for bringing innovative products to market across the whole country. We have also been effective in passing on information to our suppliers to assist them in developing improved and new offerings. In this edition of the newsletter we are highlighting some of the innovative products that we have been instrumental in bringing to the market.

This month we are asking plumbers for their ideas on products they would like to see available. Some plumbers may even have products they have begun to develop themselves and would like assistance to get their ideas to market. We are keen to get involved or at the very least point you in the right direction.

“Who remembers MAD Magazine?”

Check our front page for a Mad Magazine style fold in. 

Mad Magazine was known to be innovative and rebellious. When every magazine in the world was doing fold outs Mad Magazine came up with a fold in. 

At Plumbers Choice we like to think we are also innovative and rebellious, when every merchant was freely selling plumbing products to anyone who wanted them, Plumbers Choice introduced a Trade Only policy. 

Our Trade Only policy bucked the trend of DIY plumbing. Today there are a number of Trade Only suppliers. Sales in the Trade Only sector continue to grow rapidly. 

Our Goal is to change the way plumbing supplies are sold in Australia to a Trade Only industry. 

If you care about your trade and your business make it your New Year’s resolution to give us a go, you won’t be disappointed.

Are hardware and plumbing suppliers that sell to the general public the Grinches of our industry?

In our opinion, the answer is an emphatic yes!
Running a small plumbing business is hard enough without competing with your suppliers. Not only do they steal profit from you every year, these companies are undermining community safety.
Plumbing and gas fitting are licensed trades for good reason,
if it is not done properly people get sick and can even die.

This year we have worked tirelessly to change our industry for the better. We again thank our customers who support us in this push. Plumbers Choice and other Trade Only suppliers have again gained market
share on the Grinches of the industry. We look forward to the

new year, where we will again work hard to ensure your trade is respected and your Christmas stockings are full.

Blockhead Lugged Elbow

At Plumbers Choice we love innovation. You could say innovation is built into our DNA. It’s our delight in bringing new ideas to market that make the lives of plumbers easier or more productive. Not every product we have promoted has been a world beater. In fact, I am first to admit some we have supported have been duds. The fact that some innovations have a meteoric rise and some flop is part of the excitement of bringing innovations to market. I also love the fact that plumbers are always willing to consider a new concept. I think this is because Plumbers, by their nature, are entrepreneurial. Many plumbers run their own businesses and are always looking for ways to do their job faster or in a better way. 

This month we are proud to be bringing to market the Blockhead Lugged Elbow. You can simply use the Blockhead as you have always used a lugged elbow, that is, fix it to a noggin in the traditional method. The benefit of the Blockhead is that it can be fixed in other ways, to studs and to carpenters noggins. This means it can reduce the number of noggins required. When you consider the huge number of lugged elbows used every day and the potential labour saving, you can see why we are excited about the Blockhead.

Fires, Floods and Pandemics!

If your plumbing business has survived the past year then it can survive anything. Well done to all the small and large plumbing businesses that made it through the financial year we have just had. It is reassuring to all of us in this industry that we are an essential part of the community. Plumbers provide clean water, sanitation and heating and cooling which are all essential to human existence.

When things get tough, plumbers should feel secure and proud of the position they hold in the modern world. At Plumbers Choice we acknowledge the importance of plumbers and will never undermine plumbing businesses in the role they play. As a plumber, is this the worst excuse you have ever heard from your store manager for selling to the general public? What the store manager is telling you, is that by selling to DIYers, he is simultaneously undermining your livelihood and making a higher profit.

Plumbing stores can make plenty without insulting you and your trade. So next time you hear the excuse “don’t worry, we charged him retail” your response should be, “So you made more money and I missed out on a job?”

Industry change just got a whole lot closer!
